Global Momentum
This semester we graduated more than 2,200 students with degrees ranging from undergraduate to PhD and covering every business discipline one can imagine. As I write these words, I can’t help but think about the first Message from the Dean that I wrote in our inaugural issue of Management magazine in the fall of 1997.

Full-Time MBA program celebrated its 25th anniversary this academic school year (2022-23) in the Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center with a reception Dec. 9 at the DGAC atrium.
Former Dallas Independent School District superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa said that the problems he inherited when he took the helm of Dallas ISD required a whole new educational model.
Naveen Jindal, MBA’92, was back on campus recently to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from The University of Texas at Dallas. The benefactor said the seeds for many of his achievements were planted while he was a student at the school named in his honor.

JSOM Advisory Council recently added one new member, expanding on its already formidable lineup of 41 members from a wide variety of industries. The Council of industry experts enhances the Jindal School by offering advice on how the Jindal School can improve its academic offerings to maintain industry relevance.

Jindal School Dean, announced that the following individuals were named assistant deans during the spring semester. In their new roles, they will be enabled to provide the high level of service and engagement with students that has propelled the growth of the Jindal School, thanks to its leadership team.
As one professor from the Naveen Jindal School of Management moved to a new professorship of honor, the torch was passed on one of the coveted Ashbel Smith Professorships to another recipient during the 2023 Investiture Ceremony April 14 at The University of Texas at Dallas.

The Academic Advising Office of the Naveen Jindal School of Management has streamlined the student advising process, making it more user-friendly for both students and advisors.
The Jindal School’s Social Sector Entrepreneur- ship and Community Engagement (ENTP 4340) course, taught by Robert Wright, an assistant professor of practice in the Organizations, Strategy and International Management Area at the Jindal School, allows students to fulfill all 100 required hours in one semester.
Three papers from two faculty members in the Naveen Jindal School of Management were finalists in three INFORMS Best Paper Competitions at the 2022 INFORMS Annual Meeting, held Oct. 16-19, 2022, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Speakers at the March 24 Sustainability as a Solution to Global Challenges Conference called for change to meet the challenge of sustainability. Dr. Hasan Pirkul, Caruth Chair and dean of the Jindal School, began by discussing the topic’s importance and also the difficulty in achieving it.

War broke out Feb. 24, 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine. Many Naveen Jindal School of Management community members had family or friends who were directly affected, including alumnus Vlad Wallace, BS’20.

Andy Maish, BS’10, MS’11, and Sarah Trowsdale Maish, BS’10, MS’12, recently made a significant donation to the Naveen Jindal School of Management to fulfill a long-held promise to themselves to give their support to organizations that helped them.
Lawrence is the president of global e-commerce for Stanley Black & Decker (Stanley Works merged with BLACK+DECKER™ in 2010). She became the first African American to hold a senior leadership position with the company.

Robert Stephen Molina, Director of the Master’s in Energy Management Program and a senior lecturer in the Finance and Managerial Economics Area at the Naveen Jindal School of Management, died unexpectedly April 2, 2023. He was 75.
