Charles Frederick Hazzard
We are deeply saddened that Charlie Hazzard, who joined JSOM in 2006, passed away on Dec. 16, 2024. He joined the Jindal School as an adjunct professor and later became a clinical professor.
Dr. Zhiang (John) Lin, Professor, Organizations, Strategy & International Management, said of Charlie, “His students loved him as he was a passionate teacher who brought both academic knowledge and rich industry insights into the classroom.”
After graduation from Notre Dame in 1965, Charlie received an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 1967.
After a varied and distinguished career in business, Charlie joined the Jindal School where he taught, mentored and made a lasting impression on his students. He won the Outstanding Teaching Award from the School of Management in 2010 and he was nominated by undergraduates and honored with the President’s Outstanding Teaching Award in 2011.
Lin recognized Charlie’s sense of fun, even in the everyday work of academia. “He was also very personable. I had fun and productive time interacting with him, even during annual faculty reviews. I believe Charlie will be dearly missed by all his students and colleagues as he set a good role model for all to follow.”
Charlie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol; daughter Amanda Rollen and her husband, David, and his grandson, Chance; his son, Charles (Chuck) Hazzard, and daughter-in-law, Christina (Tina); his grandson, Hudson, and granddaughter, Harper; and numerous relatives and friends.
